Recommendation: Not Upheld | Medium: Industry Member

The CCC-R panel viewed the advertisement and considered the advertiser’s submissions for Review. The CCC-R panel observed that the advertiser submitted a clinical study in support of the claim and provided an explanation of the methodology and the results achieved from the clinical study. The CCC-R panel discussed that the clinical study was carried out to evaluate how the advertiser’s product - `Clean & Clear Foaming Face Wash’ affected the level of natural moisture on the skin's surface. A comparative evaluation was conducted where one half of the face was washed with the product and water, while the other half was washed with water only. The CCC - R panel took note of the technical expert’s assessment of the product vs water being used on two sides of the face mitigating confounding factors, thus lending greater credibility to the clinical study report. The CCC-R panel further discussed that the findings show that when the skin was washed with the product in addition to normal water, the moisture level on the skin was substantially higher. The clinical investigation reveals that using the product does not strip the skin's moisture level. There is also no loss of skin moisture level when compared with the baseline. In fact, after washing the face with the product and water, the product aids in retaining the skin's improved natural moisture level. The CCC- R panel noted that the product formulation allows the skin to retain moisture and therefore, the claim, “Retains 99% of skin’s natural moisture”, is not misleading. Based on this assessment, the CCC- R panel concluded that the said claim was substantiated with clinical evidence of product efficacy. The claim is not in contravention of Chapter I of the ASCI Code. This complaint was Not Upheld by majority on Review.
