Prompt Cipro Opt - Prompt Cipro Opt

Recommendation: Upheld | Medium: General Public

The ASCI approached the advertiser for a response regarding the complainant’s grievances and forwarded the complaint details, verbatim, with a request to respond. A copy of this communication was also marked to Nirmala Sitharaman and India Today. The advertiser was advised to withdraw the advertisement and was offered an opportunity for a telecon with the ASCI Secretariat. However, the advertiser neither availed the telecon nor submitted a written response. The Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) viewed the Website advertisement and considered the complaint. The CCC noted that no response was received from the advertiser prior to the prescribed due date as specified by the ASCI Secretariat. The CCC observed that the complaint relates to an advertisement that appeared on MSN News, featuring Nirmala Sitharaman in what appeared to be a conversation with Rajat Sharma. The advertisement directed the users to an Ethereum related webpage that could put their personal information at risk. The complainant submitted screenshots as evidence. Upon review of the complaint and the supporting evidence, the CCC concluded that the advertisement is misleading, as it falsely portrays the involvement of public figures and promotes a platform that may endanger users personal information. The advertisement contravened Chapter I, Clause 1.4 of the ASCI Code. This complaint was UPHELD.
